Notes

Jean-Pierre Dantan, called Dantan jeune, was best known for his portraits. This self-portrait can most probably be identified with the model he submitted to the Salon in 1832, of which there are casts in the Musée Carnavalet and the Musée de Châlons-sur-Marne.
