Jean/John Simon 1675-1754- "The East Prospect of Dr Flamsteads House in Greenich Park(sic); Published c.1720, Printed and Sold by Henry Overton at the White Horse without Newgate London, engraving, 44x57cm: Note: John Flamsteed, born in Derby, 1646-1719, was the first astronomer royal, he moved into Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park in July 1676, where he lived until 1684. The Observatory had been designed by Sir Christopher Wren and was the first purpose-built scientific research facility in Britain. Flamsteed accurately calculated the Solar eclipse of 1666 and 1668. He was responsible for several of the earliest recorded sightings of the Planet Uranus which he mistook for a star and catalogued as 34 tauri The first of these was in December, 1690, which remains the earliest known sighting of Uranus by an astronomer.
