Although known mainly for his depiction of panoramic military battles, two other examples of Le Paon's village scenes of similar dimensions are known, sold at Paris, Galerie Georges Petit; 17 June 1921, lot 99, (as Foire de campagne, 440 x 1030 mm.) and Paris, Galerie Georges Petit; 7-8 June 1928, lot 124, (as Foire de village, 450 x 1040 mm.).
