Janis Ridley was born in Co Durham and studied sculpture at Newcastle upon Tyne School of Art and painting at Exeter college of Art, and graduated in 1976 with a BA (Hons.) Fine Art.
Until 1994 she painted in oils and exhibited throughout the UK including Beaux Arts Bath, and the Royal Academy.
In 1995 Ridley began to concentrate solely on making sculpture. In 1998 she was elected member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. She has produced numerous work for public commissions and private collections in the UK, France, Australia and the USA.
