Notes

Jane Dealy, who became Lady Lewis after her marriage in 1887 to Sir Walter Lewis, was a painter of genre scenes, predominantly of children. She exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1881 to 1903 and was also a well-known childrens' book illustrator. She provided illustrations for five books by Frederic Edward Weatherly, including The Land of the Little People, Goosey Gander, Little Pickle, Sixes and Sevens and Tens and Elevens, and Hymns for Children by Sir Arthur Sullivan, of Gilbert and Sullivan fame.
