Item Overview

Description

Grapes in a Delftware bowl on a silver plate, peaches on a tazza, and plums on a draped table signed 'JJ Tr‰ck' (JJ linked, on the tazza, upper right) oil on panel 21 x 173/4 in. (53.3 x 45 cm.) PROVENANCE with P. de Boer, Amsterdam. NOTES Treck was a pupil of his brother-in-law, Jan Jansz. van den Uyl, and after Van den Uyl's sudden death in 1640, he acted as guardian of his children and executor of his estate. Works by the artist are rare; Vroom records just fifteen autograph pictures with dated works between 1644 and 1651 indicating a fairly brief period of activity (see N.R.A. Vroom, A Modest Message, II, Schiedam, 1980, pp. 125-7). This unpublished composition is closely comparable with the picture formerly with Pieter de Boer sold at Eberhart, Zurich, 31 May 1991, lot 363 (SFr100,000; see Vroom, loc. cit, p. 127, no. 655).
