The present mask was used during a dance entitled "De Gnoom" (The Gnome) and was worn by Florrie Rodrigo. The distorted face of the gnome very much resembles the masks produced by Erich Wichman. Besides Jan Havermans and Erich Wichman other artists like Hildo Krop, Cris Agterberg and Grietje Kots were involved in producing papier maché masks for dances and theater plays as well during the 1920s.

Christie's charges a Buyer's premium calculated at 23.205% of the hammer price for each lot with a value up to €110,000.
