Notes

Important California sculptor and designer. De Swart left Holland in 1929, moving to California. He invented rivets and grommets for ships and aircrafts during the war effort in the 1940s, as well as helped solve intricate three-dimensional engineering problems. This overlapping of art and industrial design was common during this period. De Swart participated in numerous exhibitions from the 1940s-70s, and executed important public and private commissions. This lot is accompanied by photographic reproductions and biographical material concerning the artist.
