(Probably) François Ignace de Dufresne, Conseiller en Bavière; his sale (†) Schley, Winter and Yver, Amsterdam, 22 August 1770, lot 234 (525 florins), where described as ‘un pot de fleurs & de fruits. Peint sur toile, haut de 36, large de 29 pouces. Il contient des Roses, des Tulipes, des Oeillets, des Pavots, & sur les Fleurs on voit divers Insectes. Tableau terminé & très bien peint’. Nicolaas Nieuhoff, his sale (†) Schley, Winter, and Yver, Amsterdam, 14 April 1777, lot 64 (750 guilders to Fouquet), where described as ‘Een gryze steenen tafel, op welke een glaze vles bijna vol water, waar op een venster weerschynt, in de fles staat een schooner bouquet van veelderhande bloemen en gewassen, waarop mengerhande gediertens en insectens aazen, alles is verwonderlyk schoon, zo van inventie als houding van ligt en bruin, en in de volle kragt van dezen meester geschilderd. Hoog 35, en breed 29 duim. Doek’. (A grey stone table, upon which sits a glass bottle almost full of water, in which a window is reflected, in the bottle is a beautiful bouquet of manifold flowers and plants, upon which many sorts of animals and insects are preying, all is wondrously beautiful, both in invention as in depth of light and shadow and painted in the full power of this master). with Eugene Slatter, 1947 and 1960.
