NOTE

The presumed sitter, Elisabeth Wybo (1629-1649), was the first wife of Adriaen van Bredehoff (1617-1649), an important magistrate in Hoorn.

This work may be compared with another portrait painted by the artist in 1646, of a young girl aged 11, that sold London, Phillips, 8 December 1992, lot 82. The portraits are of exactly the same size and the 11-year-old wears an extremely similar dress, bow, necklace and headdress (minus the veil), as well as sharing some of this little girl's facial features, including her rather low jaw.
