Lot 42: Jan Adam Kruseman (Dutch, 1804-1862)

Lipke a.o., Jan Adam Kruseman 1804-1862, Exhibition catalogue Paleis het Loo, Apeldoorn, 2002, cat.no. 195. NOTES The sitter was born in Haarlem and studied in Amsterdam. In 1827 he left for Paramaribo, Surinam, where he worked as a clergyman until 1834. He married three times, becoming a widower twice in Surinam. Diederich Janssen Eyken Sluyters was also a member of the 'Kolonialen Raad'. He later returned to the Netherlands, where he died in Amsterdam in 1841.
