Item Overview

Description

James Tower 1919 - 1988 British bronze sculpture Untitled 18 1/2 x 31 x 10 inches 47 x 78.7 x 25.4 centimeters Provenance:Collection of the Artist Acquired from the above by the present Private Collection, Canada James Tower was most commonly known for his ceramic forms, but during the 1960s and early 1970s he experimented with bronze. Tower only made three bronze sculptures, each one containing similar indentations and ridges. This rare sculpture embodies Tower's love of the natural world, especially the sea. Marine life and forms such as shells, were a constant source of inspiration for Tower, as well as the beach itself and the ridges left in the sand by waves and the receding tide. Please note: the base for this work is 3 inches high, and is not included in the dimensions.
