JAMES PITTENDRIGH MACGILLIVRAY RSA (1856-1938) Life Study for Sculpture 1915 brown ink, signed with initials and dated 18cm x 12cm Provenance: Ewan Mundy Fine Art Limited label verso Note: Son of sculptor William Brodie, this painter, philosopher, musician, poet and sculptor produced portrait busts of Glasgow Boy Joseph Crawhall (1881) and philosopher Thomas Carlyle (1889). He also produced sculptural work for Glasgow buildings, including City Chambers and Anderson's Medical College. A close associate of the Glasgow Boys, and co-founder of The Scottish Art Review, MacGillivray became Sculptor Royal in 1921. Private Scottish Collection.
