1. Ten preliminary studies in pencil and watercolor, some on both rectos and versos.
2. Two pages of character sketches in felt tip pen on front and back of Hotel Ritz, Paris stationery.
3. Six letters to James Marshall concerning this title (four from Susan Sherman, Creative Director, Children's Books, Little, Brown and Co., September 20-October 5, 1990, one with a pencil sketch by Marshall; and two letters from Melanie Kroupa, Editor-in-Chief, Joy Street Books, June 19 and July 5, 1990) with typescript.

This may be the only one of Marshall's working files to remain in private hands, as his personal archives were donated to various institutions after his death. The original drawing for the final picture "BOOOOOO to YOU!" is even more outrageous than the published version.
