The book itself, Joyce's earliest sustained experimental work, and the work which introduced his alter ego, Stephen Dedalus, is the Tauchnitz edition published in Leipzig in 1930 to secure copyright. Contemporary half roan over papercovered boards (extremities lightly rubbed, joints more heavily). Provenance: author's presentation copy (inscribed in green ink on half-title 'Zurich 4.1.1491 [sic]' to:) – Gustav Zumsteg (1915-2005).
