Jacques Godefroy De Tonnancour 1917 - 2005 Canadian oil and mixed media on canvas laid down on board Sur trois ronds 36 x 36 inches 91.4 x 91.4 centimeters on verso signed, titled and dated 1968 Provenance:Private Collection, Toronto Although much of Tonnancour's early work was devoted to brilliant landscape painting, towards the 1960s his landscapes began to simplify, resulting in works which approach pure abstraction. Sur trois ronds, completed in 1968, exemplifies Tonnancour's movement into the concentration of form, line and experimentation with incorporating foreign material into his painting, creating a collage-like effect.
