Lot 11: Jacques Blanchard (Paris 1600-1638) The Madonna and Child

Early in Blanchard's career he travelled to Rome, where he stayed until 1626, then residing in Venice until 1628. Much of his work thus shows the influence of the great 16th century Venetian masters. As a result Charles Perrault called him the 'Titian of France', while his other early biographer, André Félibien, stated that the principal quality of his work was his use of colour.
