(born 1516, Queen of England and Ireland 1553-8), MARIA I REG ANGL FRANC ET HIB FIDEI DEFENSATRIX, bust three-quarter length to left with head in profile, wearing cap decorated with a jewelled coronet, richly embroidered dress, lace blouse with high collar and pendant jewel, signed below IAC TREZ, pearled border, rev. CECIS VISVS TIMIDES QVIES (sight to the blind, tranquility to the timid), Mary, as Peace, setting fire to a pile of arms, holding branches of palm and olive over a group of suppliants who seek shelter from floods and tempests, pearled border, 68mm., 151.805g. (Armand I 241,3; Bargello III, 725; Currency of Fame 54; MI.I,20), cast and chased, the fields additionally tooled and some light scratches by Peace's left arm, otherwise extremely fine, one of two known examples in gold.
