Roses, Poppies, Peonies, Tulips and Iris and other Flowers with Peaches, Grapes, Cherries, Plums, and a Gourd on a Stone Ledge with Butterflies signed and dated 'Jacoba Hansen 1850' (lower center) oil on canvas 411/2 x 32 in. (105.4 x 81.3 cm.) Painted in 1850 NOTES Born in Amsterdam on September 3, 1825, Jacoba Hansen was the daughter of the artist Carel Lodewijk Hansen, a well known landscape painter and engraver who was a member of the Amsterdam Academy. In 1852, Jacoba married Jacob Geijkema, who was not only a painter but a glass maker. In 1882 she moved to Nieuwer-Amstel and then to The Hague in 1887. She dedicated her artistic career to still life painting and was known for her technical precision and balanced compositions as shown by the present work.
