Jacob van der Does (Amsterdam 1623-1673 Sloten) Sheep grazing among classical monuments signed 'JV Does' and inscribed 'HIC. SITA EST AMYMONE MARCI [?] OPTIMA ET PVLCHERIMA LANIFICA. PIA. PVDICA. FRVGICASTA. DOMISEDA' and 'TVRCIVS APRONIANVS V.C PRAEF. VRBI CVRAVIT' black chalk, grey wash, brown ink framing lines 10 x 17¾ in. (25.5 x 45.1 cm.)

N134' (trimmed, verso). Unidentified collector's mark (flower in dark blue ink, verso; not in Lugt). Peregrine Francis Aldelbert Cust, 6th Baron Brownlow (1899-1978), Belton House, Lincolnshire. Prince Wladimir Nikolaevitch Argoutinsky-Dolgoroukoff (1874-1941) (L. 2602d).
