When he was eight, and after he was diagnosed with polio, artist Jack Clouse DeLoney was given his first paint brush by his mother. During his career, historical images of cotton wagons, harvests, and Southern life were all frequent subjects in Jack Clouse DeLoney's paintings. Using oil paint and watercolor, he painted scenes he remembered from his childhood and, occasionally, from viewing old photographs. PROVENANCE: Edwin Moore Brogdon, PhD, collection. Dr. Brogdon was the owner of Brogdon Manor, a stately plantation home, located in the Brogdon Community, near Sumter, SC. The home was built in 1898 by his grandfather William Turner Brogdon. The Brogdon community was comprised of a local country store, cotton gin, sawmill and dairy.
