Description

the young actor (b.1741), performing a combined dance simultaneously, his right hand manipulating a shishimai costume and his left, a shakkyo costume against a background of butterlies hovering above peonies in the play, Aki no chogatami no hane, performed in the 9th month of Kanen 3 [1750] at the Nakamura-za, an inscription above indicates that Segawa would be eight years old which would date the performance to 1748 (but he is actually ten), publisher's mark of Urokogataya Magobei, signed Meijôdô Ishikawa Shûha Toyonobu zu with seals Ishikawa Uji and Toyonobu

Condition Note: Very fine impression, two areas of restored wormage but otherwise in fine condition
