PROVENANCE

Given by the artist to the sitter, his sister-in-law in 1906 as a wedding gift and thence by descent to her son
CATALOGUE NOTE

Rosie Snowman (neé Wartski) was seventeen years old when this portrait was painted, shortly after her marriage to Samuel Snowman. The portrait was presented to Rosie by Samuel's brother Isaac Snowman as a wedding gift. It was hanging in Rosie Snowman's home, and on her death the painting was bequeathed to her eldest child.
