Isaac J. Cullin (fl.1881-1920) The Queensbury Handicap of 1924 with Scherzo in first place Stanhope second and Hanging Fire third"; "The Great Surrey Handicap of 1924 with Scherzo first Grand Knight second and Bengal third" Both signed with the artist's initials and dated 1925 pencil watercolour and gouache heightened with white each 24.5cm by 37.5cm (pair) Cullin started his career as a portrait painter. Early examples of his work include Saddling Room Newmarket and Weighing-In Room Epsom, which was also produced as an engraving. In 1883 he collaborated with J. A. Wheeler to paint that year's Grand National winner and later went on to produce sporting illustrations for The Illustrated London News."
