IPPOLITO, Angelo, (American, 1922-2002): "Trespiano", O/C, 60in x 79in, signed upper left and dated 60, Carnegie Institute Dept of Fine Arts label affixed verso. This painting was also exhibited at the Angelo Ippolito Retrospective at the University Art Gallery, SUNY Binghamton, 1975, per exhibition catalog. Ippolito, born in St. Arsenio Italy, became an important figure in the New York Abstract Expressionist movement. Exhibited at the Caulfield Gallery, Binghamton University Art Museum, UC at Berkley, Cleveland Art Institute, Carnegie Institute. He has works in the collections of Whitney Museum of Modern Art, Phillips Gallery and the Smithsonian. Active Provincetown Mass. painter from 1956-65, teacher at Cooper Union Michigan State and SUNY Binghamton, founder of the Tanager Gallery, New York.
