The back of the woodcut includes a description that states: "Alfonsas Dargis' work in woodcuts is based on a combination of simple folk scenes and contemporary idioms. The patterning in this color woodcut for example--a fantastic tree, a gardener, a giant goose, and a delightful watermelon--all recall folktale illustration. Five colors (gray-green, deep ochre, olive-green, red and black) are related in simple curving on strong black outlines to bind his composition, but unlike most he ranges his forms in a calculated abstract pattern.
