Dated "I. Tudgay 1851," vessel identified on bow, pennant and label on reverse, all information on plaque affixed frame. Oil on canvas, 23 1/4 x 35 1/2 in., framed (more info). Condition: Scattered retouch at edges, prevalent craquelure. N.B. John Tudgay was one of a family of ship portrait artists working in London in the mid to late 19th century. There appears to be some disagreement in the literature as to whether I. Tudgay and John Tudgay were the same person.
