Item Overview

Description

Large collection of miscellaneous color proofs for the New York Herald 's Sunday Supplements with some finished supplements, each about 490 x 380 mm. From 1896 to 1924, Alfred B. Hunt worked as a colorist on the art staff of the New York Sunday Herald . After the illustrators brought in their black and white drawings and paintings, Hunt would then apply watercolor to black and white proofs to guide the printers in the final Ben Day color scheme. Among the artists and cartoonists Hunt worked with were Harrison Fisher, Arthur I. Keller, Winsor McCay, Thomas Nast, R. F. Outcault, W. A. Rogers and Dan Smith. Included are many of the Christmas supplements and a large number of the weekly "Fluffy Ruffles" pages written by Carolyn Wells and illustrated by Wallace Morgan.
