Hughie O'Donoghue (British, b.1953) Fires II signed on the reverse "H O'Donoghue, Fires II, 89/90" oil on canvas 104 x 180cm Provenance: Private collection, UK Hughie O'Donoghue is one of the most sought-after artists currently working in Ireland today. The present work relates to an important them in the artist's oeuvre - the Fire Series (see J Hamilton, Hughie O'Donoghue, Painting, Memory, Myth, London, 2003). Born in 1953 in Manchester, England, Hughie O'Donoghue received an MA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London, in 1982. In 1995, he moved to County Kilkenny, Ireland, where he currently lives and works. The artist has had numerous important solo exhibitions at galleries such as the Irish Musuem of Modern Art, Dublin; the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester; the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; and the Imperial War Museum, London.
