Item Overview

Description

HUDECEK Antonin (14. 1. 1872 Loucka near Dudyne nad Ohri - 11. 8. 1941 Castolovice) Landscape with heather Oil on canvas, 68,5 x 98,5 cm, framed, undated, signed lower right. The painting is most probably a late work according to the light palette. At this time Hudecek departured from Symbolist undertones in his landscapes and turned to a somewhat monumental and more realist perception of the subject matter. The brushwork and treatment of light in this painting have the quality of an open-air sketch. Czech landscape painter, pupil of M. Pirner and V. Brozik at the Academy of Arts in Prague. Together with A. Slavicek he belongs to artists whose work reflects the changes in Czech landscape painting at the turn of the 19th century. Initially he was influenced by Symbolism and later by Impressionism, gradually he became concerned with realist features, but in his paintings he still focused on colour and colour patches.
