華君武 貓 設色紙本 鏡框 Born in Hangzhou shortly after the fall of the Qing, Hua Junwu relocated to Beijing in 1949 where he established the Satire and Humor column of Renmin Ribao (The Peoples Daily). One of China's most well-known cartoonists, Hua Junwu was largely self-taught. His work was the subject of two comprehensive exhibitions at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) in Beijing, one in 1998 and one after his death in 2010.In this painting, the inscription loosely translates as "No matter right or wrong, everyone says 'Meow, meow, meow'".
