Hu Shanyu always abided by the rules of art, life and the era in which he lived. He explored and re-presented beauty in life with sincerity. He never liked pompous objects but preferred honest and natural painting styles, reflecting in turn the way he interacted with friends and family in his own personal life. Hu Shanyu has studied in France and was deeply influenced by Impressionism. He painted freely and easily, using bright and gorgeous colors. His style is steady and smooth. Hu also paid attention to the Chinese traditional style of painting in terms of coloring and space arrangement. When compared with western oil painting techniques, his brushwork is subtler and his tonality is brighter, in an effort to blend the two together.
