SCHWERDT COPY OF HOWE'S FINE HORSE BOOK. Born in the Lowlands of Scotland, James Howe, the son of a minister, began life apprenticed to a house painter, but his interest was in painting pictures, his real talent being for horses. Here we see the artist portraying the noble animal in all forms, the hunter, the work horse, the mount of the cavalry, thoroughbred; and cart horse.
