Item Overview

Description

Original 4-panel daily Krazy Kat strip, 114 x 505 mm, June 1 [1932], signed ("Herriman") in final panel, King Features Syndicate printed copyright strip in first panel, a few faint spots, light marginal soiling, faint mat toning to edges of panels. Provenance: from the collection of Penny Phillips, voice of Krazy Kat in the 1962-64 animated series. Ignatz sings a love ditty intended for Krazy Kat, who overhears it in the next room and swells with affection. Meanwhile Offissa Pupp passes through, exchanging bewildered looks with Ignatz. Krazy Kat's hopes are dashed in the last panel, when Ignatz completes the tune: "But I'm singing through my hat." A typically bizarre foray into the strange triangle formed by the three characters.
