Herbert M Dawley, American, Animator, 1880-1970- Angry caricature; gouache pen and black ink, signed,20x13cm: After Marcel Vertes 1895-1961- Ballerina; reproduction print, signed within the plate, 30x22cm: together with other similar prints and engravings, by and after various hands, to include the "The Ballet Theatre Annual, 1950" and others (a lot) note: One of the founders of the Chatham Community Players where he directed 115 stage productions during his 52 years with the organization. Performed in radio serials such as "Gang Busters" and "Hilltop House" in the 1930s and 40s. According to his NY Times obituary, Mr. Dawley had worked for the Pierce-Arrow Company in the art department and was a designer of special cars. It claimed he originated the idea of placing headlights on the fenders.
