Provenance

Provenance: Gift of the artist's granddaughter, Miami, Florida. Note: A native of Kansas, Henry Hubbell studied at such prestigious establishments as the Art Institute of Chicago in 1887 and the Académie Julian in 1898. He remained in Paris for several years, studying under well-known artists Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant (1845-1902) and Adolphe-William Bouguereau (1825-1905), and painting in Paris, Etaples, and Giverny. He exhibited at the Paris Salons of 1906, 1908, and 1909 and the International Society of Sculptors, Painters, and Gravers of 1907 in London. Hubbell returned to the United States in 1910, and lived in New York, and then Miami, until his death in 1949. This scene is from Hubbell's French period; it is a scene of the Tuilleries Garden, near the Musée du Louvre, with a view of the Place de la Concord and the Arc de Triomphe monuments in the background.
