Henry Jones Thaddeus (Irish, 1860-1929), A portrait of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII (1810-1903, Pope from 1878) oil on canvas, signed lower left, inscribed 'Rome 1886' lower right, 138 x 108 cm (54 1/2 x 42 1/2 in), in a substantial carved and gilded Italian frame, Pope Leo XIII was one of the great reforming popes, who laid the foundations of modern Catholic social teaching.
