Henriette Fauteux-Massé 1924 - 2005 Canadian oil and gesso on canvas Sans titre 22 x 14 inches 55.9 x 35.6 centimeters on verso signed on the stretcher Provenance:Private Collection, Montreal Private Collection, Toronto Henriette Fauteux-Massé was part of a generation of women in the early 1950s who were not afraid to assert themselves as professional artists. She painted in a traditional landscape style until 1952, when a scholarship from the Government of Quebec allowed her to study at the André Lhote studio in Paris. Returning to Montreal, her vision and its expression were transformed, and from 1954 to 1970 she painted abstracts. In 2005, the Musée d'art contemporain des Laurentides held an important exhibition of Fauteux-Massé's abstract work.
