NOTE

Hendrik Rietschoof was a pupil of his father, Jan Claes Rietschoof, who was in turn a pupil of Bakhuizen, to whom both father and son owe a great stylistic debt. The Rietschoofs very ably carried the flame of Bakhuizen's style through into the 18th century; this is a particularly fine and rare example of a signed drawing by Hendrik.
