Notes

Helen Stratton was a portrait painter who worked in the Pre-Raphaelite manner. She illustrated many children's books, the most famous being her edition of Andersen's fairy tales. This drawing differs from the picture published in The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen (Phila.: J. B. Lippincott, 1899), p 139.
