Lot 633: Helen Steinthal (British, 1911-1991) 'The Prophet

Helen Steinthal (British, 1911-1991) 'The Prophet Bird' based on a Schumann composition initialled (lower right) watercolour and gouache 39.3cm x 55.5cm. Helen Steinthal studied at the Slade School under Vladamir Polunin and the Grosvenor School of Art in London under Iain McNab. She designed stage sets for Manchester Theatre Club, The Old Vic Theatre, London (1933-38) and often exhibited and sold works at the Royal Academy in London. There was a retrospective exhibition of her work at the Hepworth Gallery in Bath in 1990.
