Notes

Known today for his work as one of the principal artists for Villeroy & Boch during the Golden Age of Mettlach ceramics (1880-1910), Heinrich Schlitt also painted genre scenes, murals, and worked as an illustrator for periodicals. While his gnomes decorate the beer steins most sought after by present day collectors, he also painted the wee folk in oils as in the present work.
