Emil van Hauth completed his art studies in Munich in 1915/16. After serving in the war, he studied in Darmstadt, Paris and Berlin between 1919 and 1924 . In the German capitol, he worked as a freelance graphic artist up to 1943. Van Hauth was a member of the Berlin Secession and served as president up to their dissolvance in 1933. Many of his works were destroyed by bombings in 1943. In 1950, he settled in Munich. Van Hauth was especially influenced by Max Beckmann.
