HARRY (HENRY) CHASE
American, 1853-1889
Dory fishing. Signed and dated lower left "Harry Chase 1879".
Trained in Holland in the late 19th century, Chase returned to America in 1879 and became an influential figure in the spreading of the Hague School of Dutch Impressionist painting. Unfortunately, Chase was forced into an insane asylum under peculiar circumstances and died in the facility at the early age of 36.
Oil on canvas, 20" x 36". Framed.

UV light reveals scattered inpaint. Very thick varnish layer makes it difficult to discern if there is other restoration. Relined.
