Notes

Warner Street is in Clerkenwell, north London between Rosebery Avenue and Farringdon Road. The viaduct shown in the present picture carries Rosebery Avenue towards Finsbury. The doorway of the Red Lion public house is shown in the foreground. Steggles captured the character of this part of the city with its elegant Georgian houses nestling between nineteenth century shops and warehouses.
