During his trips to sketch the harbour, Gilman was accompanied by the Canadian artist Arthur Lismer.Gilman made a number of studies of Halifax Harbour and its shipping. The National Gallery of Canada holds a pen and ink drawing by Gilman of Halifax Harbour (no. 14840), executed in 1918 that is similar to the pointillist style of this lot.Estimate: $800—1,200
