Illustrated with 24 tipped-in original lithographs. 6-page introduction by Saroyan. 18x13 3/4, color pictorial cloth. No. 856 of 1000 copies.

24 original lithographs by Hirschfeld, 19 of which depict Harlem residents, the other five of Balinese dancers. Hirschfeld (1903-2003) was the revered master of this type of joyful caricature.

Light soiling to cloth, some board edges showing, short tears at spine ends; some fingersoiling to half-title and a few other text leaves; light toning on lithographs just where they are tipped to mounts; overall very good or better.
