Description

Hans Tisdall (Anglo-German, 1910-1997) PHEASANT MOON, 1960 printed with the initials "ew" (Edinburgh Weavers) screen-printed ravel satin furnishing fabric 234 by 119cm., 92 by 47in. Designed for Edinburgh Weavers, Carlisle, in 1960. Born in Munich, Hans Tisdall fled Nazi Germany in the 1930s, moving to London where he became professor at the Central School of Art. He was widely acclaimed as an artist, a mural painter, and a designer. A sample of the present fabric is in the collection of the V&A.
