with Goldschmidt, Berlin, by 1924, from whom acquired by Richard Weininger, Berlin, Gut Bannacker and London, by 1938; Christie's, New York, 10 January 1980, 'Additions to catalogue of morning session: From the Weininger Collection', lot 126b, as a 'Portrait of Hans Nesslinger, aged 73 years and three months' and with the later inscription '.DO MAN.M D.XXIIII.ZALT.WAS ICH HANNS NESSLINGR.CXXIII IAR.UND.III.MONAT ALT.' ($137,500). with Colnaghi, New York, by 1983. Anonymous sale; Christie's, London, 20 May 1993, lot 306 (£40,000 to the present owners).
