The collection is consigned by a founding member of Chess Collectors International, founded in 1984, Florida, USA. In 2005 the German collectors collaborated with the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg, to organise the most comprehensive and largest exhibition dedicated to chess sets and related items, to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Hamburger Schachklub, established in 1830, the oldest and largest chess club in Germany. Most of the consigned sets and boards are depicted in the exhibition catalogue 'Schachpartie Durch Zeiten und Welten', by Hans and Barbara Holländer.
